Scientific Name: Lagerstroemia indica 'Burgundy Cotton'

Type: deciduous summer flowering tree

Size: bushy shrub 6 to 12 ft. high and 5 ft. wide

Habit: deciduous, upright, considered a large shrub or small tree, blooms on new growth (wood), highly mildew resistant

Flowers: white, blooms in summer and autumn

Leaves: wine-red (almost purple) new growth maturing to dark green

Culture: full sun, well-drained soils, good air circulation, fertilize in spring moderately - never in autumn, water when first three inches of soil is dry

Hardiness zones: 7, 8, 9, cold hardy 0° to 10° F

Use: accent tree, specimen, in containers or massed in borders
