Joyce Cleaver with her Spanish Bayonet
Joyce Cleaver

Joyce Cleaver has lived for over 20 years on the Amelia River across from Amelia Island. This is the first time that she has ever seen this lovely plant growing and blooming in her yard. It is a Yucca aloifolia.  or called a Spanish Bayonet because the trunks are armed with sharp pointed leaves. This yucca is native to our coastal areas and prefers sun. Although they can be enjoyed in our landscapes, they should be planted in the background where people and pets will not be skewered! The Spanish Bayonet can be propagated by seeds, root cuttings and side shoots. Joyce is delighted that she has such a gorgeous plant in her front yard.
