Nassau County has received a 2008 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties.

The UF/IFAS Nassau County Demonstration Garden at the James S. Page Governmental Complex was submitted for its educational programming and the different residents (including children) who benefit.

The county was recognized for "the hard work in promoting quality and efficiency and responsible and responsive county government management and administration."

"The (garden) has provided a significant educational opportunity for the targeted audiences. However, this collaborative project has also created significant goodwill between Nassau County, UF/IFAS and the Extension Service, the business community and residents," said Environmental Horticulture Agent Rebecca Jordi. "In this time of limited resources, the significance of this program effort is that it exemplifies the statement, 'The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.'"
