GAINESVILLE - Nassau County Master Gardeners were awarded top honors in two categories - Extension Awareness and Outstanding Master Gardener - during the 27th annual Florida Master Gardener Continued Training Conference in October.

The Extension Awareness Award of Excellence recognized the efforts of Nassau Master Gardeners in promoting the work of the Master Gardener program, the Nassau County Extension Service and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Science.

Bea Walker was named the 2007 Outstanding Master Gardener of the Year for the state of Florida. The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding efforts in several projects or activities while being a Florida Master Gardener.

"We are so excited for this recognition of the Nassau County Master Gardener volunteer program," said County Extension Horticultural Agent Rebecca Jordi. "Our Master Gardener volunteers work very hard to assist me in providing research-based horticultural education to Nassau County residents. As I've said many times, I couldn't reach as many people in the community without them."
